You can find Salisbury Museum in the glorious setting of the Cathedral Close. The Museum houses extensive collections relating to the history of Salisbury, and the archaeology of south Wiltshire, including Old Sarum. You will be able to view the popular award-winning Stonehenge Gallery. You can also browse through the large collection assembled by General Pitt Rivers (1827- 1900), an important figure in the development of archaeology and museums. In addition you will also see fascinating displays of costume and ceramics, and regular temporary exhibitions.

The Museum is located in the King’s House, almost opposite the west end of Salisbury Cathedral. The King’s House is a Grade I listed building, the history of which stretches right back to the 13th Century. It formerly housed a teacher training college and was the inspiration for an episode in Thomas Hardy’s novel Jude the Obscure.

The Museum is run by the Salisbury & South Wiltshire Museum Trust, and membership of the Trust entitles you to free admission and other benefits.
