Metal detectorist Sidney Boyce had a lucky find near Longbridge Deverill, Wiltshire. Having only recently taken up the hobby he by chance found a bronze trefoil (three armed) brooch that was probably made in Scandinavia in Viking times.

A viola, made nearly 230 years ago in Salisbury, has recently been donated to Salisbury Museum from Australia. The donor, Helen Mason from New South Wales, was doing some spring cleaning when she came across the viola which had been given to her by a violin maker friend in Queensland in the 1980s.

Salisbury Museum is delighted to announce that it has been awarded £14,200 by The Pilgrim Trust to catalogue its archaeology collections. It is the recognised archaeological museum for south Wiltshire and the archaeological collections are of special significance and received Designated status in 1998 in recognition of their national importance. The extensive collections focus upon the archaeology and history of Salisbury and South Wiltshire.

The unique Redlynch quilt is now on display at Salisbury Museum. Produced in 1986, it is a large three dimensional textile map, showing 36 square miles of land to the south of Salisbury. It covers all the villages in the parish of Redlynch as well as Downton and includes such well-known landmarks and landscapes as Clearbury Ring, Pepperbox Hill, the New Forest and the Avon Valley.
