Salisbury Museum is seeking a conservation architect, designer and new member of staff to move forward with our development plans. Earlier this year the museum was successful with a round I bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund and was awarded a grant of £87,400 to work up our proposals for the redevelopment of our archaeology gallery. The museum is aiming to submit a round II bid to the HLF in 2011 to secure £1.5 million towards the costs of the new gallery. Salisbury Museum is based in the King's House, a grade I listed building in Salisbury Cathedral Close. We need to appoint a conservation architect to prepare a detailed Conservation Plan for this unique building and the museum’s significant collections, which include archaeology, fine art, costume and social history. The museum will also need the support of professional designers to develop our designs for the new gallery and produce a scheme to the equivalent of RIBA stage D. The new gallery will cover the archaeology of south Wiltshire from prehistory to the arrival of the Normans, and will feature internationally important discoveries from the Stonehenge World Heritage site. Finally we need to appoint a Visitor Services Officer to undertake some of the tasks normally undertaken by the Museum Director, Learning and Outreach Officer and Collections Manager whilst they work on the project over the next year. This role will be on a 12 month contract. The museum invites all designers and conservation architects who might be interested in submitting a tender for this project to contact the museum in the first instance to discuss the project in more detail. There are further instructions on how to submit a tender on the documents section of this website. The closing date for the Visitor Services Officer post is 9th July 2010. The closing date for tenders for the Conservation Plan and Gallery Design is noon on Friday 6th August 2010. Further details can be downloaded from the documents section of the website, or you can contact Adrian Green or Sara Willis at Salisbury Museum on 01722 332151 or email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please note: For the Conservation Plan and Gallery Design there is a separate 'invitation to tender document' and 'brief'. ![]() |
