Karen Perry, the Café franchise holder, is thrilled to open her doors to Museum visitors and Salisbury residents – she says:‘I am very excited to open the new and fully refurbished coffee shop, now The Kings House Café, within the Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum.

The Out of Egypt exhibition opens on 19 January 2009, and closes on 28 March 2009. Book your school visit now. Whole and half day workshops available to primary schools, exploring Egyptian art, mummification, hieroglyphics and the Pharaohs. Making History: 300 years of exploring the past by local archaeologist and broadcaster Julian Richards.
Julian Richards will come to your school and deliver an exciting, illustrated talk on the discovery of Britain by the Society of Antiquaries. This is an opportunity for your students to learn more about the people who first challenged our understanding of the prehistoric past, and how their work has influenced the way we approach history today.

There will be one last chance on Saturday September 20th for people in South Wiltshire to see the Inspired by Stonehenge exhibition at the Salisbury and South Wilts Museum in the Close and to contribute their own memories.
The wonderfully quirky exhibition is based on the personal collection of Stonehenge memorabilia of archaeologist Julian Richards (of television’s Meet The Ancestors fame) and he wants everyone with a personal or family recollection to add to it.

One of the most frequent comments the Museum has from visitors is that they ‘didn’t realise how big the Museum is’, or they ‘didn’t realise there was so much to see’. When entering the building for the first time visitors are completely unprepared for the scale and bewildering number of galleries and exhibits – which cover everything from prehistoric fossils to 20th century costume!

The Heritage Lottery Fund has given the Museum £40,000 for this summer’s Inspired By Stonehenge exhibition. The core of the exhibition will be the unusual collection of Stonehenge- related items belonging to archaeologist Julian Richards. Julian’s collection includes ceramics, T-shirts, music, album covers, posters, postcards, computer games and home movie footage that all in some way have a link with Stonehenge.
