A Prospect of Stone-Henge, on Salisbury Plain, which is in Wiltshire
By Unknown 1701 - 1750 This image with accompanying text about Stonehenge is probably from an early 18th century book. At about this time there was a great boom in early topographical books that featured ‘gentlemen’s seats’ and ‘beauties’ of Britain. Later, in the 19th century, the scope of topographical landscapes broadened to include foreign scenes, popular landscapes and picturesque architecture.
