Stonehenge
By William Giles 1910 This picture is a preliminary sketch for a print, also in the Museum’s collections. The print is very dark and stormy but this sketch has a much lighter feel to it. Whilst both images emphasise the openness of Salisbury Plain and the isolation of Stonehenge, this sketch has the appearance of a cold and windy winter’s day, rather than a stormy one.
