The Wicker Colossus of the Druids.
By Unknown 1801 - 1850 This print is a 19th century copy of an engraving that appeared in Britannia Antiqua Illustrata, which was written by Aylett Sammes and published in 1676. The images in this book influenced interpretations of the druid’s appearance until the 19th century. The druids shown here were based upon a description by John Selden of a group of six statues found in Germany.
