Alabaster Panel
This medieval alabaster panel of St John the Baptist, possibly from Old Sarum, is over 500 years old. Alabaster, which is made from a sulphate of lime, was very commonly used for religious carvings and altarpieces at this time. It was often highly polished to create a marble-like effect or painted.
