Antiquities collection
Pitt Rivers was always a collector. In later life he continued to collect antiquities even though he was so actively involved in excavation. These collections included objects from all over Britain. The General had much experience of buying in the London salerooms and elsewhere. The people who lived and worked on his estate often brought him stray finds that they came across. Many of these would lead him to carry out fieldwork as a result.
