Rural Museum poster
Pitt Rivers opened a Museum at Farnham on Cranborne Chase in about 1885. This was a converted farmhouse, which had formerly been a school for gypsies. Here he housed and displayed both the finds that he had excavated himself together with the other diverse collections that he had amassed. The Museum was open every day, free of charge and was visited by thousands of people each year.
