Two Horn Books
A horn book was a first book for children, which usually consisted of a single leaf set in a frame with a plate of transparent horn in front to preserve it. The larger example shows two styles of alphabet and the vowels. It dates from the 1700s.

The smaller example is part of a similar book but made of carved bone and also dates to the 1700s.
