Chalk Plaques
3,000 – 2,500 BC
Two carved chalk plaques found during the excavation of a pit very near to Stonehenge during road widening in the 1960s. These were unique finds until relatively recently. There are now four plaques of this type in the Museum collections: all are from within a five-mile radius of Stonehenge. What they represent is not known.
