A talk by Dr Julie Gardiner, Wessex Archaeology.

 When the Mary Rose sank off Portsmouth during a battle with the French Navy in July 1545 she took most of her crew and contents with her. Since the recovery of the wreck in 1982 a massive programme of conservation, research and publication has been undertaken. In this talk Julie Gardiner, Series Editor for The Archaeology of the Mary Rose, will draw together many strands of information drawn from the analysis of clothing, personal possessions, the contents of sea-chests, ordnance, ship’s structure and human remains, to paint a picture of one of the key members of the ship’s company. We do not know who this man was but the amazing preservation of objects recovered from the wreck means that we can begin we can begin to piece together fragments of the life of a Tudor Master Gunner.
