Conrad Martin Metz

Metz was an eminent engraver in the chalk manner and aquatint. He originated from Bonn, Germany, but was taught art by Bartolozzi in London. He specialised in imitations and facsimiles of drawings by the Old Italian masters, like Caravaggio. In 1801 he went to live and work in Rome until his death in 1827, at the age of 72.
