David Charles Read
Artists
Read was a painter and etcher of landscape and rustic subjects who lived for many years in the Close in Salisbury. Although he did not start etching until 1826, by the end of his life he had produced a total of 237 prints. He was a rapid worker; who could produce up to five plates in one week. Only a limited number of his prints were circulated. He ceased exhibiting in 1840, by which time his works had appeared at the British Institution, (including one entitled View near Salisbury), the Society of British Artists and the Royal Academy.
