Edward Rooker
Artists
Edward Rooker specialised in engraving buildings and landscapes. Like most engravers, he usually engraved drawings by other artists, but sometimes he used his own. His son, Michael, was also an artist. Paul Sandby gave him the nickname of Michael ?Angelo?. From 1769 to 1775 Edward worked with his son to design the headings for the Oxford Almanacks. Edward was a man of many talents. He was also an actor and the most notable Harlequin of his day. These other jobs supplemented his artist?s income, which was low, and enabled him to earn enough to live.
