Blackmore worked at the Salisbury Infirmary for many years and practiced as a doctor until 1927. Throughout his life he was interested in archaeology. He took part in excavations and gained a national reputation as an archaeologist, particularly of chalk fossils from the Wiltshire area. He deposited his valuable collection of fossils at the Blackmore Museum (founded by his brother William), where he became joint curator. He was also Honorary Director of the Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum.
