Giles was born, and lived, in Reading, Berkshire. He studied at the Royal College of Art, London and in Paris. He also studied in galleries in several countries, including Germany, Italy and parts of Scandinavia. He was a watercolour painter and colour-print artist of landscapes and birds. He exhibited twice at the Royal Academy in 1899 and 1900. Giles was President of the Society of Graver Printers in Colour.
