Artists
William Stukeley was an antiquarian who made several studies of ancient monuments. His most important works are about Stonehenge and the henge at Avebury. His work brought the monuments to a wider public attention and popularised the visiting of ancient ruins. He also founded a druid society and encouraged the idea of Stonehenge being a druid temple.
