Volunteer Recruitment Days
It’s an exciting time to become a volunteer at Salisbury Museum. Our new archaeology gallery and Cecil Beaton exhibition open later this year. Come and find out how you can be involved.
Please come along to our forthcoming Volunteer Recruitment Fairs to learn more about the volunteer roles, to meet the Salisbury Museum staff, and for coffee and cake! These will be held on:
- Wednesday 12 March 2014 2-4pm
- Saturday 22 March 2014 2-4pm
NB 2-3pm will be presentations on the new archaeology galleries and Cecil Beaton exhibition. 3-4pm will be a chance to talk with staff about volunteer roles and take refreshments.
For more information and to RSVP please contact Bridget Telfer, Volunteer Co-ordinator on: email@example.com; 01722 332151.
The volunteer roles include:
You will be part of an energetic team of volunteers welcoming visitors into the new archaeology gallery and guiding people informally around the space. You will be given the opportunity to plan and deliver spotlight talks to groups and run object handling sessions.
You will be part of our thriving learning department supporting and leading schools sessions (KS1-4) on the Normans, Saxons, Romans and Stonehenge People. You will also assist with our living history demonstrations (including spinning and dying; food preparation and cooking; pottery firing; metal working and flint knapping), and programme of family events throughout the year.
Inclusive Storybag volunteer
Would you enjoy creating tactile and engaging storybags linked to objects or themes within the new gallery, aimed at audiences with learning difficulties and young children? The Museum will be working with Open Story Tellers to train volunteers in creating the storybags which will use textures, smells and sounds, and then use them to engage audiences within the gallery space.
You will promote the new gallery and museum at events across Wiltshire, where as part of a team of Communication volunteers you will manage a stall with promotional material, object handling from the archaeology collection, and ‘make-and-take’ activities for children. You will also get involved with wider museum marketing including leaflet distribution, on-line networking, web listings and contacting schools and groups.
Front of House Assistant
You will be part of our friendly Front of House team, working in a busy retail environment, interfacing with the public and working on a computerised till. You will welcome visitors into the Museum, advise on the best ticket for entry, be informative about the Museum collections, exhibitions and events, and assist visitors with purchases in the shop. With a love of working with the public this role would suit anyone with an interest in retail or customer services within a museum environment.
Cecil Beaton Exhibition Steward
Would you like to be involved in our exciting exhibitions programme? This summer (May 23 – September 19 2014) we will be hosting an exhibition on Cecil Beaton, legendary designer, photographer and artist. As an Exhibition Steward you will engage with visitors imparting your knowledge about the exhibits on display, be vigilant of security, and also have the opportunity to lead introductory tours of the exhibition.
For all of the above roles we are flexible with the time you can commit and will provide full training.
We would love to hear from you now if any of the roles interest you!
