Description

A talk by Steve Wallis, Senior Archaeologist, Dorset County Council.

The discovery of a pit containing more than fifty decapitated bodies during construction of the Weymouth Relief Road generated national and even international interest.  This talk gives details of this find and the wide variety of other archaeological work (ranging from a survey of prehistoric barrows to the excavation of a Victorian railway construction building) associated with the road, explaining how archaeology has been an integral part of the scheme right from the early planning stages.

A lecture in the Salisbury Museum Archaeology Lectures (SMAL) series. SMAL lectures are held on the second Tuesday of each month from September to April.
