John Hinchcliffe was an acclaimed weaver, painter and ceramist known for his bold and distinctive style developed through his passion for colour and experimentation.

This small print exhibition compliments a major retrospective of his work John Hinchcliffe: The Definitive works of a Decorative Artist, opening in our Main Exhibition Galleries on the 10 October 2015.

Hinchcliffe was a perpetual observer inspired by the patterns and presence of both nature and history throughout his beloved Wessex countryside. This exhibition focuses on how he transformed these observations into a series of distinct visual motifs. His great love of the decorative, the traditional and the rural is showcased through this captivating selection of bold linocut prints and their blocks.

The series ‘Months of the Year’ posthumously printed as a limited edition of 100 by the Curwen Studio on lithographic plates taken from the original blocks, will be available to buy in the Museum shop.
