A lecture by Dr Alexander Sturgis, Director of the Holburne Museum, Bath. Bath's stunning Art Museum, beautifully set at the end of Pulteney Street and at the entrance to a park, is just completing a major redevelopment. While the Salisbury Museum awaits its own re-development, come and hear about one of our neighbouring city's main attractions.

The Holburne Museum houses the Art Collection formed by Sir William Holburne (1793-1874) and subsequent acquisitions. The collection of Old Master paintings includes works by Guardi, Turner, Stubbs, Ramsay, Zoffany and Gainsborough. There are also important collections of bronzes, majolica, porcelain and furniture.

Dr Sturgis studied at Oxford and the Courtauld Institute, subsequently spending 14 years at the National Gallery, initially as Education Officer and then as Exhibitions and Programmes Curator. He has an impressive list of publications.
